Q: How long does it take for Automatic Bill Payment to take effect?

A: It may take up to three billing cycles for charges to appear on your Card. We recommend that you continue paying your bills until your service provider informs you that your bill has been charged to your American Express Card. Often, this is indicated on your provider's bill as Paid, in the amount due section of your statement.

Q: What are the benefits of switching to electronic bill payments?

  1. A: 1) What would happen if all U.S. households with an American Express® Card switched to electronic statements for all of their service providers? Together we could help save 140,000,000 pounds of paper every year.
140,000,000 pounds of paper is a calculation based on information from creditcards.com, U.S. census information and the U.S. Postal service websites.
  2. 2) Stack up the paper an average American uses in a year and the pile would be as tall as a two-story house. http://www.kingwoodgreeninfo.org/recyclingfacts.html
  3. 3) The U.S. has less than 5% of the world's population yet consumes 30% of the world's paper. http://reduce.org/paper/

If you do not see your service provider listed, contact them directly to inquire about paying your bill with your American Express Card.

In some instances, it may take more than one billing cycle before initial paid amounts are posted to the Card account. Please remember to cancel these payments with your service provider if you close your Card account, and advise your service provider if your Card account number changes.

Not all providers service all markets.
